Dear Yuletide Writer (2022)
Oct. 13th, 2022 07:47 pmHello! I'm so looking forward to Yuletide this year, and I hope that my requests get you equally invigorated, dear writer, if you were not already there with me in the first place.
General DNWs:
I'd really prefer something canonverse here, although canon divergences are also fine! As a quirk peculiar to this fandom, I would prefer if Nick weren't the POV character--sometimes I felt his voice was overpowering in canon--although that's not a must. Prompts:
I've selected Hilo and Lan here as characters, but I love the Kauls in general, and I'd love to see any kind of story featuring them (and Shae, if you feel like including her!) in this universe. I'm not as big a fan of Anden, though I'm not against him, either, so feel free to include him as well if you want!
Admittedly, I'm here for the Warren x Will, although gen is also welcome! I wouldn't mind the inclusion of an ensemble cast of friends here. Here also I'd prefer canonverse or canon divergence; no specific prompts!
SUNLESS SKIES
Any exploration of the lore of the New British Empire is welcome! Alternatively, I'd like to follow the perspective of any character, including perhaps the Sky-Captain (go wild with OCs!) live through the last days of Fallen London as it launches its expedition to the Avid Horizon.
TEMERAIRE
Please, more wildly charismatic Napoleon! I am a fan of Napoleon x Laurence, but, if you would prefer to focus just on Laurence, Laurence x Tharkay and Laurence & Temeraire is also excellent. Since Laurence and Temeraire's relationship is such a backbone of the series, I would prefer if their friendship were also strongly featured, regardless of the relationship. I have very few limits here: I'd love to see the series reset as a space opera (with a space Napoleon?) or missing scenes, and everything in between. Some of my favorite aspects of the series, although you don't need to include any of them:
General DNWs:
- hardcore kink (ageplay, animalplay, watersports, scat)
- explicit rape/non-con (as a general part of society + backstory, it's fine)
- A/B/O or D/s 'verse
- character bashing
- crossovers
I'd really prefer something canonverse here, although canon divergences are also fine! As a quirk peculiar to this fandom, I would prefer if Nick weren't the POV character--sometimes I felt his voice was overpowering in canon--although that's not a must. Prompts:
- The Jenny Bell story: a character study of Jenny and how she exists outside Nick's idealized version of her. Topics of particular interest are her relationship with Simon Burke, what she thought when Nick started developing powers, and how she got the kind of daring recklessness that leads a person to jump off a building to test their telekinesis.
- Canon divergence where Owen doesn't disintegrate on the bridge, and Owen, Nick, and Seth navigate the next few years, including college. I always found Nick and Owen's friendship really weirdly compelling--if Nick is the only one who's ever been able to get through to him, then Nick counseling him into being a post-villain, with maybe Nick x Seth x Owen to finish.
- Canon divergence where Jenny Bell survives the bank. How does her presence change things? Does Seth end up being a superhero? Does Jenny end up mentoring Owen, who'd probably be forced into superheroics by his dad anyway? More complex, even strained relationships with Nick and Aaron?
I've selected Hilo and Lan here as characters, but I love the Kauls in general, and I'd love to see any kind of story featuring them (and Shae, if you feel like including her!) in this universe. I'm not as big a fan of Anden, though I'm not against him, either, so feel free to include him as well if you want!
- AU where the Many Nations War drags on longer, and Lan, Hilo, and Shae are raised in the One Mountain Society.
- The adolescent years we're missing: Hilo (and Shae?) as a student at Kaul Du, Lan growing into adulthood. How do they deal with their changing society, their missing father, and their relationships to each other? Maybe the background behind things like Hilo demanding Lan fight him even after he has his jade, Lan in the first few years after the end of the war coping to life without his father and living openly (and with celebrity) in a city, or Lan's first few years as a finger or a hand.
- AU: what changes if Lan doesn't die?

Some of my favorite aspects of the series, although you don't need to include any of them:
- How much Laurence changed over the course of the books--from still struggling with Chinese even though Temeraire had persistently tried to teach him in the early books to being easily fluent by Book 8, from miserably committing treason to marching into generals' tents to yell (and getting his way, and a promotion too!) in Book 9.
- Australia, and the idea of them finishing that pavilion.
- Favorite side characters: Lily and Harcourt, Maximus and Berkeley, the Duke of Wellington, Emily and Demane, and the Hammond who fought in Book 2 and was Laurence's second in Book 9. I'd love to see a closer study of the relationship any of these have with Laurence and Temeraire.
Dear Yuletide Writer
Oct. 9th, 2018 08:23 pm [waves] I'm so glad we got matched up! You and I will do great things together.
General DNWs:
I love stories dripping in detail about a time or a place. Two of my fandoms are historical, the other has a richly ironic and well-developed space western backdrop. I'm fine with AUs as long as they're fleshed out and detailed. Some of my favorite AUs include:
Anne with an E
This is my fluffy happy fandom, so there are a few more squicks here than usual! Please no: infidelity, major character death, non-canonical abuse, angst with unhappy endings. I really like the lighter stuff here, so my kink is handholding, glancing at each other, Gilbert holding a hand to Anne's cheek and feeling it warm with her blush. I prefer Anne x Gilbert as a pairing if at all possible; side pairings are fine.
My absolute favorite thing about The Hour is the Bel x Freddie x Hector relationship, whether gen or romantic. I love highly competent people having each other's backs and protecting each other in different ways.
This is another OTP/OT3 where I just love the relationship between Sparks x Croach (x the Red Plains Rider). Gen or slash, it's all about that core relationship dynamic for me.

- Bad Boy!Gilbert. If you can somehow set this in canon, I'll love you forever. Bad-boy!Gilbert smuggling meds to the Bog. Bad-boy!Gilbert practicing guerilla medicine. Just... bad-boy!Gilbert.
- Anne playing The Lady of Shallott with Gilbert and having him rescue her.
- A post-marriage reunion in that coffeeshop in Charlottetown in which Gilbert confesses to Anne that her telling him to come home soon is the moment when he knew that he would return to Avonlea one day.
- Gilbert proposing to Anne the moment they get the results accepting them both to King's College.
- A spin on the original Anne books: Gilbert asking Anne to go to a ball and them having a spat about it.
My absolute favorite thing about The Hour is the Bel x Freddie x Hector relationship, whether gen or romantic. I love highly competent people having each other's backs and protecting each other in different ways.
- The Season 3 that will never be. How do Freddie, Bel, and Hector recover from Cilenti's attack? What's the next story they go on to pursue? How do Bel and Freddie move forward after all the things that have been said and not said?
- Contemporary AU. What's a Brightstone in today's parlance? How is Hector the face of the news in a world where cable news is dying as fast as the newsreels then? How is Bel still dealing with sexism, but of a different, more insidious sort? What does a vice sting look like today? Vaping and graffiti? How does Freddie inevitably end up with his heart in his mouth and his story in the news?
- The spy AU. Freddie is James, Bel is Moneypenny, and Hector is...? Alternatively, a retelling of the series wherein Freddie was the Brightstone all along.
This is another OTP/OT3 where I just love the relationship between Sparks x Croach (x the Red Plains Rider). Gen or slash, it's all about that core relationship dynamic for me.
- One of Sparks and Croach's (and Red's) many adventures before all that pregnancy and Jupiter spy and marriage business happened. Someone's been rustlin' hypercattle, or whatever. Go wild!
- Post-series fix-it. What happens after they get back from the surface of the sun? Or, to pick a slightly earlier point in canon to fix it, how do Red and Croach pick themselves up after Sparks goes... to Earth?
- Sparks travels back in time to significant moments in his life and gently nudges himself on towards his destiny. Featuring: Sparks realizing how annoying he is, maybe being helplessly charmed at a young Croach,
